This morning I was sitting at my table planning out my week, and looking for some inspiration in a few books and magazines. I love quiet mornings, with my coffee and some beautiful things to look at.
What I really need to do is put up our Halloween/Fall decorations. I have been trying for the past couple of days to get out all of our stuff, I just hope to finally succeed in doing so today. I've got The Temper Trap(I love these guys!) on, nice and loud, and I am in a very happy mood, especially for a Monday.(~.~)
Have a look and a listen. I just love his falsetto, it's so beautiful and such a great video, too. I think they have three different versions for this song. I like this one the best.
For this weeks Music Monday I chose the intro to the 1961 Parent Trap, staring the incomparable Hayley Mills. I must have watched this movie every single day, from about 6th grade until 8th grade, and probably once a month since that time. I absolute LOVE this movie, every single inch of it. I can quote it frontwards and backwards, tell you about each and every outfit, all of the sets, and every little mistake there might be. But, one of my favorite parts of the entire movie... has got to be the opening credits. I really feel that it had a huge impact on me as a kid. I remember thinking that I wanted to create little figures and dioramas just like those in the intro. I truly believe that is why I love to make little dolls and animals. I owe it all to the opening credits of the parent trap.:-) Plus the song(The Parent Trap), sung by two of the original Mouseketeers, Tommy Kirk and Annette Funnicello, is quite a catchy little tune.;-) I wish they still made Disney movies like they use to. I also wish the Disney Channel would actually play some of their old movies like they use to.
So, if you have a hankering for nostalgia and wonderful sets(her dad's California ranch is just to die for), costumes, the adorable Hayley Mills, and the utterly gorgeous Maureen O'Hara(seriously, in my humble opinion, she is hands down one of the most beautiful actresses, EVER!), pop in The Parent Trap. No matter how many times you see it, it's always a joy and a treat. I have worn out two videos, and we(so glad my little one is starting to love the Hayley Mills movies as well) are on our second DVD already.
I guess this kind of turned into more of a movie Monday post than a music Monday post, but it all started with the music.
I went out for a walk this morning with acorns on my mind. Sad to say, I only found one little teeny-tiny one(pictured above), but I did happen to find that cool lollipop(at first I actually did think some little kid had dropped their bright red lolly on the sidewalk) looking thing. Our neighbors have a tree full of them, and they are the most beautiful colors, from a bright green, to pink, to red. So pretty! I am going to have to investigate what exactly they are.
But back to acorns, I really do love them, always have. I think they are such a sweet little mascot for the fall season. And there is something so enchanting and magical about them. Every time I see one, I can't help but think there must be a little fairy near by.:-) Here are a few of my acorn faves around flickr.
I loved this beautiful stump work from wind flower embroidery. I think I need to research stump work a little more. I am truly intrigued by all of the detailing.
I know that we have all seen these little acorn caps with needle felted bodies, but I can't help but adore them year after year. I like the little twist and extra detail Jennifer Murphy put on hers. I think I need to make some for my table.
Yes, I am going to try and post something music related each Monday. I absolutley love all kinds of music, so this should be an easy thing for me. Let's keep our fingers crossed that I stick to it.;-) Another thing I love besides music is a happy accident, and that's what happened for this Monday's Music. I was searching out acorns around the internet, and happened upon this wonderful band I had never heard of, The Acorn. I think they have such a great modern-folksy(if that's possible?;-) sound, just perfect for this time of year, and it makes for great house cleaning music. Have a listen and enjoy their cute video!
